Rain
One of the things I miss most about Eastern Washington is the rain. Now you may find that odd considering I'm in Seattle right now and I get enough rain in a year to last me a lifetime. I don't miss the quantity or frequency of rain; what I miss is the smell. I'm sure this confuses most of you over here on the west side. You're thinking "It only smells wet when it rains." On the contrary, in dry climates like eastern Washington it smells wonderful outside when it rains. In my efforts to explain how wonderful the rare eastern Washington rain is I found this website that tells why it smells so great. Now if only I could have that smell here...
What Causes the Smell after Rain?

Holly I know what you're talking about. It rains way more in Glasgow than Seattle but it hasn't really smelled like anything...
I also miss the smell of woodsmoke. That's a big fall smell in Newport...
Thanks Joel. I'm glad someone can relate. I miss the woodsmoke smell too, we used to have a woodstove at home.
