Tales from the Waitress

For anyone who doesn't know, I'm spending my summer waitressing at the same restaurant I've worked at for the past 3 summers. Initially I had hoped for a job as a Physical Therapy Aide, but this has turned out to be a blessing both financially and spiritually. So, due to my lack of inspiration regarding what to write, I decided I would use my blog to rant, rave, and vent about waitressing. I'll try to post new and exciting stories whenever I can, and hopefully ya'll be entertained.

Sunday: It was an awesome, busy day and it felt so good to just sit by the end of the day. Of all my fun times waitressing today had the biggest high and low. First, the high. One of my lunch tables actually said grace before their meal. Now this may not sound that special, but I can only think of one, possibly two other times in my four summers as a waitress that I have noticed a family pray first. I'm sure it has happened plenty of times and I haven't noticed, but it surprised me. I made a point to pass the compliment along to the father when he paid and I think he appreciated it. And for the low...this lady with her boyfriend and two nieces came in to get some pop from the grocery section of the store/restaurant. One of the guys I work with knew her as the sister of his friend. So, they came in, looked around, the girls (who were some of the cutest, sweetest, most polite kids I've ever seen) asked for ice cream bars, and the boyfriend paid for a Mt. Dew for the lady and they left. I thought this was odd. People almost never just come in, buy something for themself (excluding the rest) and leave. As I expressed my confusion to the guy I work with, he informed me that she was a 'tweaker' (meth/crack/drug user) and characteristically didn't think of anyone but herself. She probably didn't have the money to buy the girls anything even if she wanted to because it was going to drugs. It made for a pretty depressing evening thinking how the girls were in such a neglectful and generally negative environment. I wish I could have taken them home with me. Maybe some day :)

Well, that's all the stories I have for now. I'll see you again next week, same bat-time, same bat-place.
